So, I’m not interested right now in adding more people to my project, but if you wanted to build something as an external app, that sounds like a neat project. The tracker supports hot reload.

Documentation is being written. I got most of my learnings from cracking open Fouton's Items-Only ALttPR pack, Emo's Open ALttPR pack and SauceRelic's Metroid pack.

Depends on how the notations are set for access rules. The “make it blue” definitions should probably come later than the “make it yellow/green” definitions. I think I have some of mine backwards and they never change from being blue since they return true for the blue ones first.

I'm pretty certain in OOT trackers blue means you can get a hint, while if it's not blue (yellow/green), then you can get it (with or without sequence breaking)

That's how it currently works since you can't see what any item is before getting it, other than through hints. That could change if standing heart pieces are able to be changed to show what item they are. However, I don't believe there's too many cases of being able to see what an item is but not being able to reach it. The heart piece in the windmill is one, but it can be sequence broken, so it would show up as yellow instead of blue.

it should be noted that you might have to delete and re-add this modification if that pack gets updated, as changes to the items made by a pack author likely means that the pack breaks if you keep your "old" override around

Hm. So I'm playing LttP random and using the default/official Open Mode (v28) tracker, and I have access to the Dark World with the items I've selected (both the Hammer and the Power Glove to access the portal near Kakariko Village) but the tracker says that none of the Dark World chests are accessible. Am I just missing a setting or something, or is this an error in the tracker? (I also don't think I have access to anything else without the use of glitches/sequence breaks so this is my only option for progression)

For someone who has no experience messing with the packages, how easy would it be to create something that ONLY displays dungeon chest counters? I'm curious in having something like this when I'm tracking tournament matches, and it seems like a good way to keep track of dungeon chest counts in case viewers ask about it.

After a long three weeks of development, my Wind Waker Item/Map tracker is finally released! You can find it on the package manager. Be sure to select your settings using the Settings tab or nothing will show as accessible. As this is the first release, there are sure to be errors that need to be fixed. If you find any, you can either ping me in #pack-support or send me a DM. I will try to get everything found fixed! Things to note. Choosing to use Treasure Charts will unlock every square's treasure. This is in case you choose the "Randomize Charts" option. I may add another toggle for this later down the road. Also, huge shoutouts to @Spleebie for the Triforce piece layout, and for all the other help he gave me.

Doing ALTTP / Super Metroid run, v10, normal difficulty. Emotracker is showing that the King's Tomb is not accessible yet, but I am able to get back there with hammer, mirror, pearl, pegasus boots, glove 1. Glove 2 is inside the tomb. (apologies if this is the wrong place to post this!)

Once you've installed EmoTracker, click ⚙ -> Packages -> Manage Packages. The window that opens is called the package manager and contains links to all the published packs. Just click the install button for the pack you'd like to use and EmoTracker will automatically download it and save it to the proper location.

Honestly, it's not that bad. Just open up the code for someone else's pack and poke around the code and play with it a bit. It's really not that bad, especially if you're only going for an item tracker. I had little coding experience before making my tracker (and 0 JSON experience) and I think mine came out just fine. 😄 Just give it a try!

Speaking of hints, if you click on the Stone of Agony, then blue squares will show up on the map. These squares represent locations which have specific hint text which may appear on Gossip Stones, and you can mark down which items appear there as you encounter the appropriate hint.

As long as you have Hints enabled, the Gossip Stones will tell you things about the game. There are junk hints, bad hints, good hints (specific descriptions of locations), and guaranteed hints (Big Poes, all skulltula rewards from 30 up, other annoying things)

If you're on Keysanity, there's one big key for each dungeon. There's small keys up to the standard amount for each dungeon. You may find that there are more than what you need if you use the keys in a pattern that is efficient. This is better-suited for the ALttPR Discord as well.

PugHud was a tracker made by @Fouton (PugHUD) before EmoTracker was created. Fouton has since discontinued PugHud and remade it for EmoTracker.

I started reconsidering it when we got 4+ hour randomizers (like OOT rando). Since we now are dealing with 8+ hour randomizers (like WW rando), tracker save/load is officially on my roadmap. It's not in right now though, and I don't have a firm ETA.

More-realistically, a Banjo/Diddy Kong Racing/DK64/SM64 (a pair thereof) would work. Banjo's jiggies, DKR's access balloons, DK64's collectibles, SM64's Power Stars. They all work with collecting stuff to gain access to new areas based on the number of the stuffs you have.

Wind Waker is pretty solid. It's a lot like the TR ZOOTR, minus as much customization, since the game has less collectables.

But, it has a dungeon randomizer, key-sanity, and I believe song randomization. It's definitely worth the look, but be prepared to be there for a LONG time if you play with key-sanity.

Understandable. It's only playable on either a hacked system, which is almost impossible to do now with all of the system updates, or playing it on a pretty shotty emulator. As I recall, there were only two or three actual seeds as well. It was randomized based on your file name, and a lot of them were just the basic vanilla game. The other three seeds just gave you hookshots for every deku stick, or Zelda's Letter for every deku nut. It was 100% impossible to complete even the Deku Tree. When I heard of this new one, I was excited, but also shuddered at the memories.

I remember that from way back when too. Somebody made a Four Swords hack that was... interesting, to say the least. Only player 1 could use ocarina, 2 could use bombs, 3 could use deku sticks/nuts, and 4 could use slingshot/boomerang/bow/hookshot. Or something along those lines. Fun, but hard as hell.

No argument here. But, from what I've heard, it will randomly reallocate chunks of the games data for better stability or some other reason. Because of this, importing cheat codes is impossible, due to the memory address being relocated almost at a constant rate. I could see that heavily influencing a randomizer in a very negative way.

As we know it, sure. But with the 3DS roms being encrypted, and needing to decrypt them in some way, shape, or form, I think the randomizer will definitely take a long time to be built in that manner. I think we'd see the filename randomizer before we seen a rom randomizer. And that's not something anybody wants. Plus, since we have an OoT randomizer already, I'd say the demand for it is incredibly low. At least for now.

Some packs respond to the Enable/Disable map option. Ones with maps either have it in the title or have the icon in the Package Manager. Next trick is that you need to stretch the window to be large enough to tell it to not use the compact view.

_ 1: Copy your overrides folder for his pack to back it up (to your Desktop or something) 2: Delete the one that's in the overrides folder 3: Delete the one that's in the packs folder 4: Restart EmoTracker 5: This should make it Installable from the Package Manager 6: Install it 7: Compare it to what you had previously and if you need to make edits to restore it to what you had 8: If you retained the backup we made in Step 1, you should be able to do stuff and not have lost anything (edited)

Inside the items.json of the pack you're using, you'll find that each item has a "codes" tag. Any of the codes in that field will work for chat hud.

I believe most trackers that show the map tend to have logic built in as well. What I was actually getting at is if it would be overwhelming for say a standard randomizer run (only items shuffled) then maybe have a checkbox for it to be added during generation? That way if you're generating a seed that it would be useful, for example a keysanity/3sanity, just check the box and the option goes in with it.

If there was a way to rearrange pins other than by reverse engineering the order you want to check things in, I think the pins section would be more useful. As it is, if I set my route with pins, and then pick up something else that lets me get more checks, if I add them then the pins becomes (even more of) a cluttered mess. (edited)

I'm really easily distracted or lose my train of thought, so I mark out the next several minutes worth of checks in reverse order, so I can follow the route I intend without getting distracted. But if I get something that increases the available checks on my path, I have to either reverse order everything again, or add those new ones at the front of the list and jump around. (edited)

Ocarina of Time has special good-hint and guaranteed-hint locations that have a more descriptive text than the generic hints; these locations are selected from a specific semi-frustrating location pool by the randomizer, and as such the full set of valid hintable locations in the tracker supports the visible-item selection box. In short, the dotted line is for locations where it is possible to know what the item is before you can legitimately reach it, hence the blue "visually checkable" coloration.

for chest groups. lets take desert palace as an example. theres 6 chests, 5+1, main area and boss area. If you enter DP without boss key nor boots, you can only access 3 in the main area. (bigchest & pedestal is locked) so, if you open 3/5 chests, technically DP main, should be locked until you A) get boots/bigkey. B) did DP boss, but have no key. is it safe to assume, these kind of specific conditions are ignored for simplicity, sake?

Just gonna babble a thing about how learning has lessened my reliance on trackers: I did put out a full 3sanity (keys, songs, skulltula tokens added to global item pool) run of Ocarina of Time in one sitting using only a key-enabled item tracker package. Took me nine and a half hours of playtime, but I can officially say I don't need a location tracker for OoT now.

Can't say that makes much sense to do, tbh. The intent of blue locations is it's possible to know what the item is before being able to acquire it. In the case of OoT, this just happens to be a not-guaranteed thing for most of said locations.

Yellow just means it's an "out of logic" accessibility. Sometimes it's a selectable logic option in the case of OoT

On the tracker (ALTTP) the tracker shows chests for a dungeon. Does this include all chests or just the number of items available (i.e. Not counting chests with keys etc.)

The LttP tracking paradigm has been to list the number of unique items obtainable in that dungeon; that is to say, all items excluding chested keys, Big Keys, maps, and compasses.

It should be noted that this is is different for the keysanity variant. When you're playing keysanity, there's no way for the tracker to know where the dungeon items are, so it lists the total number of chests in the dungeon instead.

@PhntmBlackIce in regular LTTPR its helpful to know if you've gotten all the "useful" items in a dungeon. so if the dungeon has 6 chests, but only 3 items, and you get those 3 items in the first three chests plus the big key, you can skip everything else

that feature is called capture you will notice that the location itself is colored blue, meaning you can see it (or get information about it) but not actually get it so the box allows you to remember an item in there and once you clear the location (via right click or opening the chest) the item automatically gets added to your tracked items

Particularly the thinking here is that once the counter reaches zero, the remaining chests in the dungeon will be just keys, maps and compasses. That way you know that you're good to just head to the boss or leave the dungeon without worrying about anything else.

Ice Cavern has two unique items in it in vanilla OoT, plus one song location and three Gold Skulltulas. There are four item-pool locations in Ice Cavern: Map, Compass, Iron Boots, and Freestanding PoH.

The (+2) is the number of extra checks you gain in the dungeon if you turn off placing maps/compasses or shuffle them into the global item pool Keysanity-style.

Just... never leave home without your key tracker if you're running Keysanity. Hell, use the Keysanity variant anyway, it's helpful.

The normal variant just tells you "yeah, you can reach everything" without caring about keys

are there any plans for a map-style tracker for Prime 2: Echoes? I'm doing 100% runs on the Trilogy, full completion being the goal, and it seems like there's just as few trackers for echoes as there are for prime, so thought i'd ask here.

would be pretty awesome, but i understand with that. i gather the logic for winnable seeds is still a little shakey around the edges. makes sense, 3D games require better logic i'd imagine (not a programmer, but i'm generally good at intuition). once the groundwork for that is in place i imagine we'll see interest rise ^_^
